William Shakespeare once wrote, “It is a wise father that knows his own child.” When Southwest fathers are not busy being all-around superheroes for their families, they are busy becoming experts on their children. From favorite toys to secret sayings, good dads share a bond with their children like no other. And the fathers in Southwest Orlando Bulletin’s milestone 24th annual That’s My Dad! photo contest are no exception.
The Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association partnered with Orange County Public Schools to produce the annual Orange County State of the Schools Address at the DoubleTree by Hilton Orlando Downtown. More than 300 Central Florida community and business leaders were in attendance to hear OCPS Chairman Bill Sublette and Superintendent Barbara Jenkins discuss the recent accomplishments and future challenges facing OCPS.
An army of volunteers joined Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn and Orange County Environmental Protection Division employees for the recent Mayor’s Earth Day Cleanup Event. Three different groups spent their morning discarding invasive plants and trash at Fernwood Park, Maguire Road and Bird (Egret) Island.
Regardless of hard times, places of hope can be found throughout Central Florida, places where residents and families are coming together to pay tribute to fallen heroes and inspire others for a brighter future. Two such places are the Deputy Scott Pine Community Park and Pink Ribbon Garden.
