Orlando Plastic Surgery Center - 10/22/09

Enhancing Appearance With Care & Compassion

by Toni Daylor

Men, women, the young and the not-so-young generally want to look their best. Whether it is eating healthy, sticking to an exercise regime, or decreasing the amount of stress in life, people can look and feel their best in a number of ways.

Another available option is a trip to a plastic surgeon. With so many advances in both surgical and noninvasive cosmetic enhancement procedures, looking one's best is within reach.

"Plastic surgery is more than just improving looks, it is about making people feel better about themselves and feel better physically by correcting problems that may affect their health," said George H. Pope, M.D., F.A.C.S., who has provided plastic surgery services to Central Florida residents since 1988.

George H. Pope, M.D., F.A.C.S., has provided plastic surgery services to Central Florida residents since 1988.

Pope earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University. He gained his surgical experience at Tulane Medical Center and the University of Connecticut. He continued to hone his skills as part of a plastic and reconstructive surgery team at the University of Louisville, and he trained with Jack Anderson, M.D., a pioneer in the open rhinoplasty technique.

Pope is board-certified in plastic surgery, as well as ear, nose and throat surgery. He serves as a clinical assistant professor at both Florida State University Medical School's local campus and the new University of Central Florida College of Medicine, and he offers an elective in plastic surgery rotation to senior medical students from both schools.

Under the leadership of Pope, Orlando Plastic Surgery Center has become the premier destination for those seeking care with compassion, safety and expertise. In 2007, the practice opened its comprehensive on-site surgical center, which earned recognition from the prestigious American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities Inc. To achieve this honor, stringent national standards were met for equipment, operating-room safety, and personnel and surgeon credentials.

"I wanted to offer a surgery center in the same building as our offices so my patients would have the convenience of having everything done in one location," Pope said. "They don't need to have consultations in one office and drive to another location to have procedures done."

Pope performs a number of rhinoplasty procedures in addition to breast augmentations and breast lifts, face/brow lifting, eyelid surgeries, septoplasty for deviated septums, male breast reductions for gynecomastia, tummy tucks, breast reconstructions for patients who have had mastectomies, and liposuction.

No one likes to think about experiencing surgical complications, and they are rare in plastic surgery. However, Pope has taken steps to give his patients peace of mind in the unlikely event of such occurrences.

"When someone has cosmetic surgery by me, they are automatically covered by an insurance policy that pays for an unexpected surgical complication," Pope said. This is one more way that he puts his patients' safety first.

Contrary to some beliefs, visiting a plastic surgeon does not always mean surgery. There are a number of noninvasive procedures and services Pope offers that can aid in skin rejuvenation and body sculpting. Patients can choose from an array of powerful anti-aging weapons, which do not require extensive downtime and can fit into almost any budget.

OPSC uses state-of-the-art lasers to address a number of issues from diminishing fine lines, facial wrinkles and acne scars to tightening the skin by stimulating the production of collagen. Laser treatments have proven effective for decreasing hair growth; removing vascular lesions, such as spider veins; and improving skin tone for those who suffer from rosacea, age spots and small vascular vessels in the skin.

The newest addition to OPSC's laser line is the Pearl Laser by Cutera, which resurfaces skin without a lengthy recovery time.

In addition, Pope and his physician assistant, Katie Benson, P.A.-C., treat patients who choose to have noninvasive cosmetic treatments that can restore facial volume, correct smile lines and nasolabial folds.

Injectables include Botox Cosmetic; collagen; Restylane; Radiesse; and CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast, which are the first FDA-approved injectables made from natural human dermal cells.

Botox also has proven to be an effective remedy for excessive sweating.

A unique concept adopted by Pope is the "Fill-Good" Liquid Face-Lift.
This individualized plan utilizes a number of nonsurgical options like skin care, fillers and laser therapy to help patients achieve their goals.

A licensed aesthetician also is on staff to offer advice about the medical grade-skin-care products such as SkinMedica, Obagi and Image Skincare offered at OPSC.

Pope has surrounded himself with a team of experienced medical professionals who share his philosophy of delivering the best medical care in a welcoming, safe environment.
