Go Red for Women luncheon a success

The American Heart Association held its Go Red for Women Luncheon, sponsored by Orlando Health, at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport. More than 325 guests attended the event, which raised $275,000 for AHA. WFTV news anchor Barbara West and Wesmere resident Gloria Boisvert, a heart-disease survivor and national representative for AHA, spoke during the luncheon, which also included a heart-healthy cooking demonstration, Wii Fit challenge and red purse auction. Chef's Gala raises money for United Way

More than 20 of Central Florida's top chefs participated in Heart of Florida United Way's 18th annual Chef's Gala at Epcot's World ShowPlace Pavilion. The event included gourmet food, fine wines, live music and a silent auction. Almost 1,000 guests attended the fundraiser, which generated nearly $170,000 for local nonprofit organizations that receive support from HFUW. Huntington Learning Center launched its Reading Adventure summer program to encourage students to get excited about reading.
