Winnie Palmer Hospital For Women & Babies
83 W. Miller St., Orlando • 321-843-9792 www.winniepalmerhospital.org
Winnie Palmer Hospital For Women & Babies is an 11-story hospital that provides complete women’s care, from obstetrics and high-risk births to minimally invasive gynecological surgical services. The facility is also home to one of the largest, most successful neonatal intensive-care units in the nation.
The expert staff at Winnie Palmer Hospital is experienced in all facets of gynecological care, including the treatment of conditions like chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis and abnormal bleeding. State-of-the-art laparoscopic equipment is utilized by the facility’s gynecological surgeons. In addition, the hospital provides surgical services covering a wide range of needs, including hysterectomy and sterilization via the Essure procedure or tubal ligation.
The new da Vinci Si Surgical System with dual consoles is part of the continually advancing technology at Winnie Palmer Hospital. As an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, this state-of-the-art robotic platform enables the hospital’s surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions, with significantly less pain, less scarring and shorter recovery time.
The da Vinci Si System also gives the facility a greater ability to train the area’s physicians in minimally invasive surgery, which helps Winnie Palmer Hospital realize its goal of becoming a world-renowned medical training destination.
Traditional open gynecological surgery, using a large incision for access to the uterus and surrounding anatomy, has for many years been the standard approach to many gynecological procedures. Yet, with open surgery can come significant pain, trauma, a long recovery process, and a threat to surrounding organs and nerves.
For complex hysterectomies and other gynecological procedures, robot-assisted surgery with the da Vinci Si System may be the most effective, least invasive treatment option. Through tiny 1- to 2-centimeter incisions, surgeons using the da Vinci Si System can operate with greater precision and control — minimizing the pain and risk associated with large incisions, while increasing the likelihood of a fast recovery and excellent clinical outcomes.
Winnie Palmer Hospital is home to Central Florida’s only female director of minimally invasive surgery, Jessica Vaught, M.D. Utilizing the da Vinci Si System, Dr. Vaught performs complex and delicate women’s surgeries with unmatched precision. The hospital’s medical team also includes members of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando’s Gynecologic Cancer Centers Specialty Section, who treat benign conditions, including total hysterectomy, fertility-sparing myomectomy, removal of the ovaries and ovarian cysts, and surgery for chronic pelvic pain, including the removal of endometriosis.
