Richard Lotenfoe, M.D., FACS, is a board-certified urological surgeon and the founder of Urology Health Solutions. He has been serving the urological needs of Florida since 1998. He offers compassionate, personalized care in a safe and confidential environment. Dr. Lotenfoe has special interest and expertise in the treatment of prostate cancer and vasectomies.
Prostate cancer is the second-most common cancer in men, and each year 26,000 men in the U.S. die from this disease. It is now understood that many prostate cancers do not need active treatment, such as surgery or radiation, and can actually be observed. However, if intervention is needed, traditional procedures have been associated with significant, sometimes debilitating side effects, such as erectile dysfunction and loss of urinary control. Recently a relatively new treatment has been approved in the U.S. called HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound). With this outpatient treatment, ultrasound energy is used to kill the cancer without the need for surgical incisions or radiation, and without blood loss. Potency rates are high, and, more importantly, incontinence rates are almost nonexistent. HIFU has been available around the world for more than 15 years, and it has a proven track record. It also allows for the most modern concept of focal therapy, where only the cancerous tumor is treated, and the remainder of the prostate is left intact. This results in minimal side effects.
Some men and their significant others consider getting a vasectomy when they feel that their family is complete. A vasectomy is a safe, simple and effective surgical procedure that makes a man sterile. Dr. Lotenfoe’s “no scalpel and no needle” technique results in less pain and swelling than the traditional process. This simple and gentle outpatient procedure is performed right in his office. Dr. Lotenfoe is currently accepting new patients.
