Coach’s Corner

“Defense returns entire starting LB core led by the Powell twins and Cameron Williams. Bell-Anderson is the lone returning starter in the secondary that graduated three seniors, who are all on college football rosters. Offense lost nine starters of [the] championship team. Expect Buchanon and Schyck to lead the receivers, while Brandon Fields is next in line of great DP running backs. Nivon Holland is an explosive playmaker to be on the lookout for. Dr. Phillips returns a very young team. Leadership and QB play will be key.”
Coach Rodney Wells
Dr. Phillips High School

“The Lions have seven returning starters on offense and seven returning starters on defense. On the offensive side of the ball, Henry Austad will be leading the Lions’ fast-tempo offense. Last season, Austad passed for 1,081 yards and nine touchdowns. The dual-threat quarterback also ran for 435 yards and seven touchdowns. Look for senior Grayson Wagner to be on a lot of Austad touchdown passes this fall. Tanner Hammond, Bryan Thomas and Joey Fragoso will share the duties in the backfield. The offensive line is big and strong, led by third team all-state center Josh Taylor. Foundation’s front seven on defense are experienced and have had much success. Led by first team all-state defensive end Warren Sapp [II], the Lions will be putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks and backfields. Danny Stutsman, Michael LeMieux-Bott, Andrew Johns and transfer Ethan Terrell are very physical and have a ton of experience. Wagner also tied for the state lead in 2A with seven interceptions last year. Lineman Dylan Parker and safety/slot receiver Max Klein are transfers that will [have an] immediate impact [on the] players. If we get better every practice and tackle, block, execute and take care of the ball, this team could make a deep run in 2A.”
Coach Brad Lord
Foundation Academy

“After going undefeated in the regular season the past two years, The Royals are looking to make a playoff run in 2018. They bring back their two top runners in (RB) Rolous Frazier and (RB) Owen Pifer, along with a very solid QB in Matt Edwards and key offensive linemen Robert Smith and Quinten Harvey. The defense will be led by (CB) Lake Ellis, (safety) Nate Edwards, (LB) Jordan Pierre and a host of others. This group has a chance to make the playoffs three years in a row and make their mark on school history.”
Coach Leroy Kinard
