Orange Tree resident Ryan Scotson opened the first medical marijuana clinic in the Dr. Phillips area. CannaMD, a statewide network of medical marijuana doctors and clinics, aims to provide alternative medicine to patients in need.

Rep. Robert “Bobby” Olszewski of Sterling Pointe joined Congresswoman Val Demings of Southwest at the 27th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr./Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy Prayer Breakfast, hosted by YMCA of Central Florida. The annual breakfast celebrated the legacies of Martin Luther King Jr. and Pappy Kennedy, the first African-American elected to the Orlando City Commission.
Windermere
Barbara Vance of Windermere joins eXp Realty LLC.
Longtime Windermere resident Barbara Vance, who has been an integral part of the area’s real estate scene since the early 1980s, joined the cloud-based eXp Realty LLC. Barbara serves as team leader, mentor and coach for the company’s Windermere office. She is perhaps best known for building and owning Vance Realty Group in the mid-90s, before selling the business to Prudential Florida Realty WCI in 2006.

Rotary Club of Dr. Phillips members welcomed Rotary Club of Lake Buena Vista representative Ann Peach as a guest speaker. She spoke about both clubs joining forces with the Bilaspur Midtown Rotary Club in India in an effort to fight rheumatic heart disease. The club also recognized its Rotarian of the day, Alma Van Der Velde, and Rotarian of the month for December, Richard Jackson.

Keene’s Pointe resident Sophie Graham of Elizabeth Parsons School of Dance wins first runner-up in the Teen Miss Dance competition.
Dancers from Elizabeth Parsons School of Dance participated in the Florida Dance Masters Thanksgiving Convention in Orlando. Highlights from the event included Sophie Graham of Keene’s Pointe ranking as the first runner-up in the Teen Miss Dance competition. Ashley Kim performed her solo, The Arena. Melina D’Argenio, Sophie Graham and Anna Lee performed Hallelujah. All of the students danced beautifully and shared their passion and joy for dance with the audience. Florida Dance Masters advances the art of dance through quality education for teachers and students, promoting excellence in dance.
The race is on for the Girl Scouts of the USA National Cookie Pro Contest 2018. Girl Scouts are encouraged to enter the competition through April 30, 2018. Those who enter must be an eligible Girl Scout cookie seller from a participating council. Six girls nationwide, one girl per grade level, will be named a top cookie pro for 2018 and be featured on the Girl Scout cookie package. During a Rotary Club of Lake Buena Vista meeting last month, guest speaker Paul Woods, development director of the Monique Burr Foundation, spoke about things that all parents and citizens need to be aware of in regards to child safety. Topics included safety related to bullying and abuse, among other things. His foundation primarily visits schools to teach children five safety rules: Know What’s Up, Spot Red Flags, Make a Move, Talk It Up and No Blame/No Shame.

Boy Scout Troop 867, chartered by the Islamic Center of Orlando, were given an inside look at the helicopters and other high-tech equipment used by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit. The boys were able to see the tools the department uses to keep citizens safe and fight crime
from the air.
