| The Orlando Magic, in partnership with Florida Hospital and the Florida Partnership to End Childhood Hunger, kicked off an awareness campaign promoting Summer Break Spots with an event attended by Magic guard and Southwest resident J.J. Redick, and Magic Community Ambassadors and Southwest residents Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw. Summer Break Spots are part of the federally funded summer nutrition program, which provides nutritious meals and snacks to low-income children during the summer months. Anderson, Redick and Outlaw spoke to children about living healthy lifestyles and eating right. Anderson and Outlaw also held a mini basketball camp. |

Ben Delaney of Orlando Area Rowing Society was one of just two rowers from Florida selected for the USRowing 2011 U.S. Junior National Team. Delaney competed in this month’s 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships held in Eton Dorney, U.K., in the men’s quad division. The Southwest resident began rowing in 2009 at an OARS Learnto-Row camp and qualified for the men’s Varsity 8 boat in February 2011. Delaney also competed at the 2011 USRowing Youth National Championships held in June. |
| The Florida Rush U17B Nike men’s soccer team outscored its opponents 23-3 in six matches to win the state championship title. The victory advanced the team to the Region III championship tournament held in Murfreesboro, Tenn., where the men scored a goal in the 90th minute of the final match to secure a 2-1 victory and the 2011 Region III championship title. Forward Jean Rivaroli, who led the age group for goals scored, received the Region III Championship Most Valuable Player Award, and goalkeeper Juan Fajardo, who allowed just three goals in six games, received the Golden Glove Award. The team advanced to the 2011 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships that were held in Phoenix last month. |

Rising Dr. Phillips High School sophomore Shay Crawford competed in the Pinto World Championship held in Tulsa, Okla., with her horse, Friday Nite Flirt. The Sand Lake Point resident placed in the top 10 in the Western Pleasure classes. Crawford and her trainer have been working with Friday Nite Flirt, aka Gabby, for two years, and Crawford has competed with her for one year. Crawford also is a top student and varsity cheerleader at DPHS. |
