Emily Flanigan, a Celebration resident since 1996, participated in the 2011 LPGA Qualifying Tournament Stage I. She shot 72 and 73 to make the initial 36-hole cut, and then shot 76 and 72 to finish the tournament 5 over par. Her 44th-place-tie finish was enough to advance her to Stage II of the qualifying, which will take place next month. Emily began her training at Celebration Golf Club, was a member of her K-12 school’s varsity golf team for seven years, and was co-captain of the Division II Florida Southern College golf team. She placed fifth at this year’s national championships, with a four-day score of 7-over-par 295. |

Windermere Little League’s 9- and 10-year-olds All-Stars softball team defeated Tampa Bloomingdale 5-0 to win the 2011 Florida State Softball Championship held in Fort Myers. The girls had lost to Tampa in an earlier round of the tournament but defeated two other teams to secure a place in the finals and rematch with Bloomingdale. This marks the first time a 9- and 10-year-olds WLL team has won a state championship. |

The Wildfire 16-under softball team placed second in the 2011 American Softball Association Fast Pitch Girls A 16-Under Southern National Championships held in Columbus, Ga. The girls battled through 10 games, three of which required extra innings, defeating teams from five different states. The runner-up finish earned the Wildfire a berth in the 2012 ASA national tournament, which will be held in Montgomery, Ala. |
