Nicholas Armillei of Boy Scout Troop No. 6 was honored for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor ceremony held at Holy Family Catholic Church. The Southwest resident has been a member of Troop No. 6 since February 2006 and is the troop’s 56th Eagle Scout. As his Eagle Scout project, Nicholas led the efforts to paint a 16-foot-by-27-foot map of the U.S. at Windy Ridge School. His proud parents are Bob and Dianne Armillei. |

Rotary District 6980, which encompasses 48 Rotary clubs throughout five Central Florida counties, recently held its district conference at Buena Vista Palace Hotel and Spa. Program speakers included 2011 District Gov. Charlie Rand; Rotary International representative John Capps; and Harris Rosen, a Southwest resident and Rosen Hotels’ president and chief operating officer. Founded in 1920, District 6980 boasts about 2,100 individual members. |

Central Florida Women’s League members honor the 10 high school women who received 2010-11 CFWL scholarships. |
Central Florida Women’s League members celebrated the close of the 2010-11 fiscal year with a business meeting and luncheon at Hilton Orlando. Officers were elected for the 2011-12 year, and the new board members were introduced. The business meeting concluded with the traditional passing of the presidential bowl from outgoing President Janet Morrow to incoming President Linda Cardilli. During the luncheon, $92,000 was donated to local charitable organizations, and 10 Southwest high school seniors received college scholarships totaling $30,000. |

Darden CEO Clarence Otis received a John W. Sterchi Award, which recognizes an individual’s lifelong support of the YMCA of Central Florida. The Southwest resident has been involved with the YMCA for more than 40 years and is a former board chairman. He continues to serve on YMCA of Central Florida’s executive committee as a trustee. |
