FuelMySchool, an official online partner for Orange County Public Schools, held its inaugural Tennis Classic fundraiser at Isleworth Tennis Center. Fourteen teams from randomly selected OCPS schools participated in the event. The winning team from Tildenville Elementary School received $500 for school supplies. FuelMySchool offers free online support programs to its 194 registered schools and has provided more than $50,000 in resources and funds. |

Orlando Area Rowing Society members earned one silver and four gold medals in the Southeast Youth Championship Regatta held at Lake Lanier in Georgia. The women’s Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8 and 3rd 8, and men’s Novice 8 all took top honors; men’s Varsity 8 placed second; and men’s Junior Varsity 8 placed fourth. The event secured OARS an invitation to the 2011 USRowing Youth National Championship held last month in Oak Ridge, Tenn. |

Morgan Frazier, a rising junior at West Orange High School, placed 10th in the Level 10 Junior D Division of the USA Gymnastics 2011 Women’s Junior Olympic National Championships held in Long Beach, Calif. Frazier, who trains at Orlando Metro Gymnastics, qualified for the national competition at the regional meet held in New Orleans, where she placed in the top seven in the Southeast. |

| For the first time in the school’s history, Dr. Phillips High School received Orlando Sentinel’s Varsity Cup, which recognizes the Central Florida school with the most outstanding athletic program. In addition, the Panthers won the Florida High School Sports Association Former Brazilian midfielder Raí Souza Vieira de Oliveira (back, center), captain of the 1994 World Cup championship team, visits with players and coaches at FC Elite Soccer Academy in Winter Garden. Floyd E. Lay All-Sports Award, which is given to the top athletic program in the state. This is the third time DPHS has been recognized with this prestigious award. DPHS also placed second in the statewide Academic Team Championship, with 26 of 30 varsity teams earning unweighted GPAs of 3.0 or higher. After leading both the women’s basketball and flag football teams to state championships, Anthony Jones was named female sports coach of the year. Bridget Blake (cross country), Demetrius Hart (football) and Hannah Schaible (flag football) were named player of the year for their respective sports; and Jared Watkins (wrestling, track and field) was named Central Florida Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. |
| To pilot the Starting New at Golf G-Ball program, the National Recreation and Park Association awarded $180,000 in grants to 15 park and recreation agencies in the U.S. Orange County Parks and Recreation was among the agencies selected, and it received $12,000 in cash and SNAG equipment. Best described as golf’s version of T-Ball, G-Ball is targeted at 5-and 6-year-olds and focuses on progressive and developmental play in a noncompetitive format. |
