The Rotary Club of Dr. Phillips welcomed Dr. Phillips High students to the 26th annual Rotary Leadership Awards, an event designed to help students develop qualities of self-confidence, leadership and citizenship. Students are encouraged to utilize their new skills through their participation in club activities, such as student council and DPHS’s Interact club. |
| Congratulations to Windy Ridge School students for collectively scoring the highest of any Orange County Public Schools middle-schoolers on the FCAT. Ninety-seven percent of WRS students scored at Level 4 or higher, making their school the top middle school in the district. Kudos also to Olympia High students for being the top high school performers on the FCAT, with 91 percent of students scoring at Level 4 or higher. |
| Thirteen Orange County Public Schools high schools ranked within the top 1,000 schools in The Washington Post’s annual Challenge Index rankings. Among the schools recognized for their excellence in college preparation were Dr. Phillips High, ranked 449; Ocoee High, ranked 865; Olympia High, ranked 309; and West Orange High, ranked 707. The rankings are based on the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or other college-level tests administered, divided by the number of graduating seniors. |
| Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando is hosting its annual School Matters supply drive, benefiting disadvantaged children in Central Florida. The campaign runs throughout the summer and ends the first week of August. Requested items include wide-ruled paper, pens, glue sticks, notecards, binders, scissors, highlighters, pencils and erasers. Also needed are personal hygiene products, such as combs, brushes, tissues, antibacterial hand lotions, deodorants, toothbrushes and toothpastes. Financial donations also are welcome. Donations may be dropped off Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 2100 Lee Road in Winter Park or Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at 11184 S. Apopka-Vineland Road in Orlando.
