Orlando Area Rowing Society competed at the 46th annual Florida Scholastic Rowing Association Florida State Championship held in Sarasota. OARS, which is composed of 95 students from local public and private high schools, took home one silver and five bronze medals. The two-day event drew athletes from 41 Florida high school and youth club teams, and the top teams qualified to compete at the Southeast District Youth Championship held last month in Georgia. |

| The WNBA Seattle Storm drafted The First Academy alumna Krystal Thomas during the third round of the 2011 WNBA draft. Thomas served as TFA student body president for the 2006-07 school year and was named 2007 Gatorade Player of the Year, 2007 EA Sports and Parade first-team All-American, 2007 McDonald’s All-American and 2007 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball. She played center at Duke University, appearing in 131 games and scoring 793 points during her four years at the school. She is the daughter of Victor Thomas and the late Natalie Thomas, and a beloved member of the Deluzio family. |
