SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment announced the U.S. release of Turtle: The Incredible Journey, a documentary that chronicles the life and migration of an endangered loggerhead turtle from hatchling to adult. The film follows the turtle on a 9,000-mile journey across the globe and back to its nesting grounds in Florida. Narrated by Academy Award nominee Miranda Richardson, the documentary promotes SeaWorld’s mission of celebrating the natural world through entertainment. At its various parks, SeaWorld cares for more than 60,000 animals and has rescued more than 18,000 orphaned, injured or ill animals throughout the past 40 years. |
| Universal Orlando Resort will kick off its third annual Summer Concert Series with live performances at the outdoor Music Plaza. Running Saturday nights through July 16, the concert series gives guests a chance to conclude their visits to the park with nighttime concerts. Concerts are included in regular park admission to Universal Studios. Performers include the Go-Go’s on June 11, Nelly on June 18, Third Eye Blind on June 25, Trey Songz on July 2, Boys Like Girls on July 9, and Drake on July 16. |
| Representatives of the Garden Theatre, located at 160 W. Plant St. in Winter Garden, announced the full lineup for the 2011 Summer Movie Series, which runs from June 16 through Aug. 27. This year’s schedule boasts 30 feature-length films, including Vertigo, The Wizard of Oz, West Side Story, The Princess Bride, Mamma Mia, Clerks and more. All movies begin at 7 p.m., and tickets are $5. Summer passes are available for $50 and allow the pass holder and two guests admission to all 30 films. Dr. Phillips High School’s varsity Winterguard had a successful season performing Oh Alice, an Alice in Wonderland-inspired routine. The team was promoted to Scholastic A status and placed sixth in the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit Championships Scholastic A division, as well as became a two-time Winterguard International regional finalist. |

Kudos to Windermere resident Noah Schnacky for receiving a CARE — Child Actor Recognition Event — Award from the BizParentz Foundation during an event at Universal Studios Hollywood. Each year, CARE honors more than 150 of the entertainment industry’s young stars for their positive contributions to the field. To be eligible for a CARE Award, performers must work professionally, demonstrate dedication to academics, participate in community service, be a union member, study acting and more. Schnacky is a straight-A student, local radio personality on Radio Disney’s Kid’s Concerns, and was the top male vocalist in last year’s KIDZ Star USA Talent Search. |
