More than 500 people attended the inaugural Compassionate Hearts End of Summer Celebration,co-hosted by Southwest resident Alma Van Der Velde and the Holy Family Catholic Women. The event included food and drinks; live entertainment by Pure Vinyl Rocks; children’s activities; and an honorary duck march led by The Peabody Orlando Duck Master Donald Tompkins and Holy Family Catholic Church Youth Choir Director Eric Anderson of Southwest, the fundraiser’s beneficiary. Eric has been battling cancer since August 2010. He is a former duck master for The Peabody Orlando, where he worked for 10 years, and has served as Holy Family’s youth choir director for 18 years. He also worked for Orlando Health as the guest services manager at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Eric and his wife, Sally, have two children, Brigitte, 10, and Blake, 8. All proceeds from the event benefited the Anderson family. |

Turnburry resident and Rotary International District 6980 Gov. Art Brown recently made his first visit to the Rotary Club of Lake Buena Vista. He was welcomed by Southwest resident and President David Brinckerhoff. Also at the meeting were Brown’s wife, Karen, and Assistant Gov. Bill Baril of Westminster Landing. All three are members of The Rotary Club of Dr. Phillips. |

Kristy Konat of Ocoee, Jessica Tisko of Eden Isle, and Stacy Sewell, membership director of Bella Collina in Montverde, joined Bella Collina’s Pink Ladies team that is participating in the 2011 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Metro Orlando walk. The American Cancer Society event, which is themed “Put On Your Pink Bra,” will take place Oct. 29 at 8 a.m. at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando.
