This year, Women Playing for T.I.M.E. raised $510,000 for M. D. Anderson Cancer Center — Orlando, bringing its 19-year donation total to $8.6 million. The announcement was made during WPFT’s 19th annual golf tournament. Founded in 1993, WPFT, which stresses technology, immediate diagnosis, mammography and education, is an all-female volunteer group that raises money for research in breast cancer, as well as other cancers that affect women. |

Congratulations to the following Dr. Phillips High School teams and student athletes who were recently recognized for their accomplishments: Nine seniors have committed to play their respective sports at the collegiate level: Phillip Amone (football), Brigham Young University; Tyler Aycock (diving) Florida Atlantic University; Erika Figueroa (volleyball), East Carolina University; Jack Flaherty (baseball), University of Notre Dame; Walker Haymaker (baseball), Virginia Commonwealth University; Roderick Lawrence (basketball), Morehead State University; Nick Patti (football), Boise State University; Jalen Phillips (baseball), Duke University; and Jecoliah Pratt (softball), Brevard College. The men’s and women’s swimming teams won their respective Metro Conference championship titles and advanced to their district tournaments. This was the fifth consecutive Metro Conference title for the women and second for the men. At the district meet, for the ninth time in the school’s history, the men were named district champion. The women placed second, just 39 points behind Olympia High School and more than 200 ahead of East Ridge High School. Nine fall sports teams earned GPAs of 3.5 or higher. Leading the group were men’s golf (3.556), men’s bowling (3.541) and women’s cross country (3.441). |
