Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando will hold its second annual Glow & Golf event Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. at Winter Park Country Club, located at 761 Old English Ave. in Winter Park. The event includes nine holes of golf played in the dark with glow-in-the-dark golf balls. The evening concludes with a raffle, food and refreshments. The cost is $70 per person or $260 per foursome, or $25 to attend just the dinner. Sponsorship opportunities also are available. Proceeds from the event will benefit Get Caught Caring, a campaign to provide needy children and families with toys and food for the holidays. Windermere Preparatory School’s girls golf team shot a 295 to clinch its second consecutive Florida High School Athletic Association Class 1A state championship title, besting the secondplace team by 22 strokes. WPS was led by sophomore Shannon Aubert, who won the individual state title by two strokes. Additional team members are Lauren Gros, Ailin Li, Viviane Vazquez and Samantha Wagner. The team is coached by Chris Wagner. |

The Orlando Scorchers boys travel basketball team will hold tryouts Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. for third- and fourth-graders, and Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. for seventh- and eighth-graders. Tryouts will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 631 S. Dillard St. in Winter Garden. Residents also are invited to participate in Orlando Scorchers workouts, which are held at Calvary Baptist Church each Thursday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m. The cost is $5. The workouts consist of drills to improve conditioning, ball handling, passing, shooting and defense; and will prepare players for the tryouts.
