Congratulations to the following Dr. Phillips High School teams and student-athletes who were recently recognized for their accomplishments: The men’s swimming and diving team won the regional championship for the first time in the school’s 25-year history, making it a clean sweep of the Metro, district and regional titles. The team was led by Austin Olivares, who broke two school records, and the 200- and 400-meter free relay teams, which also broke school records. At the state meet, the men placed eighth overall; and female swimmer Angela Algee won an individual gold medal to lead the women’s team to an eighth place finish, as well. The football team defeated Freedom High School 56-42 to win its fourth consecutive district title. Wide receiver Trey Griffey was recognized as an Orlando Sentinel Male Athlete of the Week for his tremendous performance in the game, recording 13 receptions for 188 yards and four touchdowns. Griffey also was formally invited to participate in the prestigious 2012 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game, which will be televised live Jan. 5 on ESPN. |
