Helen Watson celebrated her 100th birthday Dec. 11, 2011, at her Bay Hill home. The event was attended by neighbors and friends from Helen’s numerous activities, including golf, a sewing club, Bible study group and her years as dean of women at Rollins College. |

Dennis and Anne Michels of Bay Lakes co-sponsored the third annual Let’s Say Grace fundraiser to benefit Grace Medical Home, which provides medical care to underserved residents, from newborns to age 65, who reside at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Donations still are being accepted for the event, which has raised more than $300,000. |

More than 200 residents attended the event, including City of Orlando Commissioners Samuel Ings and Phil Diamond. The holiday celebration will be an annual event, and additional MWMA events are planned for this year. |

During a recent tribute dinner for former U.S. Rep. Bill McCollum, West Orange High School senior Jeff Cox was recognized for his Eagle Scout project. A member of Troop No. 6 in Windermere, Jeff was named Boy Scouts of America National Eagle Project Winner for his Sept. 11, 2001, memorial in downtown Windermere, which features a 650-pound piece of steel from the World Trade Center. Jeff was congratulated by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also signed the banner that concealed the memorial prior to its unveiling. Jeff also was the inspiration behind London’s 9/11 anti-terrorism project, which is taught to millions of British high school students. |
