The Wildfire ‘98 fastpitch softball team shutout the Port Orange Blazers 8-0 in five innings to win the 12U Gold Division at the Independent Softball Association state championship tournament that was held in Bartow. This past fall, the girls won four tournament championship titles, and this victory marked their 13th consecutive win. |

Olympia High School freshman Emily Headley placed second at the cross country state championship held in Dade City. The Titans placed fourth overall. In addition, the Hidden Springs resident competed in the Elite Girls Division of the prestigious Foot Locker Cross Country Championships South Regional 5K race held in Charlotte, N.C. The event featured the top 200 female runners from 14 states. Headley earned a personal best time of 18 minutes, 10 seconds to place 35th overall and fifth among high school freshmen. |
| University of South Florida soccer player Aubrey “Tre’’ Perry was one of just 52 U.S. college players to be invited by Major League Soccer officials to attend the 2012 adidas MLS Player Combine being held Jan. 6 through Jan. 10 in Fort Lauderdale. The college senior is USF’s all-time leader in games played and games started, and has started every game since the 2009 season. This year, he was selected to the All-Big East third team and helped lead the Bulls defense to seven shutouts. He also is a member of USF’s Honors College. His proud parents are Aubrey and Deborah Perry of Ocoee. |
