Lil Sluggers teaches the fundamentals of baseball to toddlers and preschoolers. With Ice Cream Cone Hitting, Dunk the Coach, Raining Gumballs and other fun games, the staff also ensures that children have tons of fun.
Lil Sluggers is a national child-development program with more than 30 locations across the country. The program was created to introduce the game of baseball to children ages 2 through 5. Classes, which meet weekly, help youngsters develop important baseball skills such as throwing, catching, hitting and base running. Developmentally appropriate equipment and activities are used to teach children in a fun, exciting, positive environment.
Lil Sluggers’ classes have a maximum of six students per coach, so each child receives plenty of individual attention and encouragement. Each coach has baseball experience, in addition to receiving full training on Lil Sluggers’ curriculum and training methods.
Each age group has its own set of games, activities and objectives that are age-appropriate and, most of all, fun. The curriculum progresses from introducing the basics of baseball to preparing children for T-ball and Little League, by adding more challenges and complexity as the children advance. Classes last from 45 to 50 minutes, and Lil Sluggers provides the needed equipment.
Lil Sluggers currently has locations in Gotha and Winter Park, with plans to expand throughout the Orlando area. The spring session begins March 1, and the cost is $129 for eight weeks. Each child will receive a baseball cap at the first class and a medal at the end of the session.
