Dr. P. Phillips Hospital |
When Dr. Philip Phillips purchased his first orange grove on the shores of Sand Lake in 1905, he never imagined that a comprehensive health care facility would later emerge from that same site. Serving the residents and visitors of Southwest Orlando since opening as Sand Lake Hospital in 1985, Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, a part of Orlando Health, was renamed in 2007 to honor the citrus pioneer. In November 2008, a new five-story tower doubled the size of the hospital. The 330,000-square-foot addition resulted in more surgical suites, a new outpatient infusion area, larger lab and pharmacy areas, and enhanced cardiac catheterization suites. The hospital’s emergency department provides care 24 hours daily and is the busiest ED in the metro Orlando area. Beyond emergency care, the ED offers an accredited chest pain program to help identify causes of chest pain and rule out heart attack. The ED also has a designated stroke center, where early diagnosis and treatment significantly can improve a patient’s chances of recovery. Inpatient and same-day surgeries include many advanced and specialized procedures, as well as minimally invasive surgeries with the da Vinci robotic system. Other specialty services located on or near the Dr. P. Phillips Hospital campus include the Comprehensive Wound Care Center, offering hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat chronic wounds associated with diabetes, vascular disorders and other health problems; and the Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center of Central Florida. M. D. Anderson Cancer Center — Orlando, now on the campus of Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, brings exceptional cancer care directly to those living in Southwest Orlando. High-tech diagnostic imaging — mammography, ultrasound, CT scans, magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine — is now available digitally, often in minutes after examination. For more than 25 years, Dr. P. Phillips Hospital teams of nurses, physicians and ancillary staff have continued to care for the Southwest Orlando community, offering comprehensive outpatient services combining state-of-the-art technology, convenience and extraordinary health care in one place. The team of specialists is always there to ensure that its patients’ medical needs always come first.

Golden Pond Communities Assisted Living |
Golden Pond Communities Assisted Living is located less than one mile from historic downtown Winter Garden. Downtown Winter Garden is a charming mix of shops, restaurants and attractions, including the Garden Theatre, Heritage Museum, History Center and Central Florida Railroad Museum. Golf carts are allowed in Winter Garden, which makes it convenient for Golden Pond residents, as it is a golf-cart-friendly community. The community is located on 10 beautifully landscaped acres with winding sidewalks, park areas, courtyards and a patio attached to each one-story apartment. From the front porch, residents can see the West Orange Trail, which is a 22-mile-long multiuse trail that passes through downtown Oakland, Winter Garden and Apopka. A section of the trail passes by Golden Pond property. Assisted living provides a loving environment for older adults. With varying sizes of apartments, laundry service, housekeeping, maintenance, three daily meals and snacks, residents are free to enjoy their neighbors and activities. Social support is a very important part of a person’s life, no matter the age. Most people would not choose isolation and loneliness, as a lack of social support can hinder the quality of life. Golden Pond has a variety of activities to support positive self-awareness, which is one of the keys to a quality of life and satisfaction. Being involved in planning by attending resident council meetings, dietary committee meetings or activities committees gives residents a chance to feel satisfied. Golden Pond also offers a memory-loss community for those with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. The community’s apartments have back doors that lead to a one-acre secured courtyard for the residents to enjoy. Almost any day one can find family members enjoying their loved ones in this environment. There are specially designed activities, along with memory-enhancement programs, that are designed to gently remind the senses to respond to stimulation. Reminiscence and music therapies are used to allow the individual to reflect upon fond memories. Unlike many assisted-living communities, Golden Pond offers limited nursing services and provides 24-hour nursing seven days a week. This service provides additional care for residents, as well as facilitates their ability to age-in-place. Golden Pond’s medical director goes on rounds with a registered nurse to check on patients. Golden Pond has a state-of-the-art call system that residents use to get quick access to the certified nurse assistants or nurses. Labs and X-rays can be done on property. More and more families are finding themselves in the position of taking care of a parent, and with it comes special issues. Golden Pond’s staff members offer support groups at the community to help families adjust to the changing things going on in their lives.
