Lake Whitney Elementary School held its annual Dolphin Education Fund golf tournament, which raised more than $8,000 for the School Nurse Program. The winning foursome was led by Brian McCully, who received a teal jacket. Defender Aubrey “Tré” Perry III signed a contract with Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew and was named to the team’s roster. The Ocoee resident was a four-year starter at the University of South Florida and selected in the second round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. Previously, Perry played soccer with the Orlando Football Club under coach Dave Bardsley. His proud parents are Aubrey and Deborah Perry. |

Dr. Phillips High School’s competitive cheerleading squad won its second consecutive Metro Conference championship in as many years as the title has been offered by the Florida High School Athletic Association. The girls then earned their fourth consecutive state championship title, defeating the second-place squad by more than 17 points. This is the second-longest state championship streak in the school’s history. At the national competition held at ESPN Wide World of Sports, the Panthers placed third, just nine-tenths of a point behind the first-place finisher. |

U.S. Tennis Association high-performance coach Maxsy Jimenez is the managing director of King of Kings Tennis LLC at Sheraton Vistana Resort in Lake Buena Vista. The Ocoee resident was the director of junior programs in Florida for 12 years, played for the University of South Carolina, was a quarterfinalist in the Junior Boys’ Singles division at the 1991 US Open, and coached at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He also is an International Tennis Federation, ATP World Tour and Women’s Tennis Association coach. |

Orlando Magic players Dwight Howard and J.J. Redick were honored during the 22nd annual Orlando Magic Youth Foundation Black Tie & Tennis Gala presented by Fairwinds Credit Union. Howard and Redick were co-winners of the 2011-12 Rich & Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award, which recognizes the player who has dedicated his efforts off the court for the purpose of enhancing others’ lives. Throughout the year, Redick, a Southwest resident, hosted a shopping spree for 75 children from Boys & Girls Clubs of America, participated in the Summer Nutrition Program and Slam Dunk for Literacy project, purchased more than 230 tickets for children affiliated with Easter Seals to attend home games, committed to providing four $15,000 scholarships for four years to Boys & Girls Clubs members, and more. |

During a recent game, 12-year-old David Siegel of Dr. Phillips Little League’s Major Cubs team hit four home runs over the fence. Siegel’s home runs brought in two other runners to help lead his team to a 14-7 victory. Previously, this feat had never been accomplished by a Little League player of Siegel’s age. He is coached by Don Ellefson. |
