Luis G. Alvarez, M.D. |
Luis G. Alvarez, M.D., received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He also was a fellow in cardiac electrophysiology at the UT Health Science Center at Houston. Dr. Alvarez is board-certified in cardiology and clinical electrophysiology. Together with Aurelio Duran, M.D.; Roland A. Filart, M.D.; and Pavel Guguchev, M.D., he operates the Cardiac Arrhythmia Associates of Orlando, affiliated with Orlando Heart Center. His areas of specialized experience include implantable devices and radiofrequency ablation used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Dr. Alvarez is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and member of the Heart Rhythm Society, formerly known as North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology. He joined OHC in 1994 and practices at the Sand Lake office.

Joel R. Garcia, M.D.

Joel R. Garcia, M.D., is a native of Reading, Pa., and graduate of The Pennsylvania State University. He continued his medical training in internal medicine with postdoctoral training, including an internship and residency at Penn State College of Medicine/Left Ventricular Hypertrophy program. Dr. Garcia completed a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at Penn State College of Medicine/Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa. Dr. Garcia is board-certified in internal medicine, nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular disease. His areas of specialized experience include noninvasive imaging, with a special interest in valvular disorders and pulmonary hypertension. He also is experienced in all aspects of diagnostic coronary angiography and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Garcia is fluent in Spanish. He practices at Orlando Heart Center’s Sand Lake office next to Dr. P. Phillips Hospital.

Jose A. Lefran, M.D., obtained his medical degree from the University of Juarez School of Medicine, Mexico, in 1985. He completed his internal-medicine residency in 1992 and fellowship in cardiology in 1996, both at Seton Hall University-affiliated hospitals. Dr. Lefran is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and member of the American College of Physicians and American Medical Association. He is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases. His areas of specialization include transesophageal echocardiography, nuclear medicine and cardiac catheterization. Dr. Lefran has practiced at Orlando Heart Center’s Sand Lake office since 1996.

Israel J. Mantecon, M.D., received his doctorate in medicine from the Universidad Central Del Este in the Dominican Republic. He completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Elizabeth Hospital in New Jersey. He served as chief medical resident and completed a cardiology fellowship at Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medical Education, South Orange, N.J. Dr. Mantecon is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology. His areas of specialization include transesophageal echocardiography, nuclear medicine, and cardiac catheterization. Dr. Mantecon currently serves as chairman of the department of cardiology at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. He served as vice chairman of the Leadership Committee and remains active in his leadership role. Dr. Mantecon has practiced at Orlando Heart Center’s Sand Lake office since 1994.

Sanjeev K. Shroff, M.D., completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Florida in 1991. He received his doctorate in medicine in 1994 from UF; completed his residency in 1995 at UF; and completed a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2000. Dr. Shroff is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with a subspecialty in cardiovascular disease. He specializes in diagnostic catheterization, nuclear cardiology and stress echocardiography. He also is Level 3 trained in echocardiography. He has practiced at Orlando Heart Center’s Sand Lake office since 2001.
