The 2012 winners were Kathie Glass, top agent; Miriam Siefken, rising star; Lindsey Sewell, rising star; Irhelma Pieterse, top agent; Dore Baratta, spirit award; Shelly Martini, spirit award; Sherri Palmer, top agent; Marie Helen Ledbetter, spirit award; and Ann Wargo, most improved. |

Two Southwest residents were honored at the American Culinary Federation Southeast Regional Conference that was held in North Carolina. Retired chef Richard Cote received the Southeast Region Hermann G. Rusch Chef’s Achievement Award; and Nora Galdiano, executive sous-chef at Isleworth Golf & Country Club, won the Galbani Mozzarella Challenge. In addition, the Central Florida chapter of the ACF was named Southeast Region Chapter of the Year. |

Southwest resident Kheera Maaranu is selected to compete in the Florida National Teenager Scholarship Pageant. |
Kheera Maaranu was selected as a state finalist for the Florida National Teenager Scholarship Pageant that was held earlier this month in Orlando. The Southwest resident is a dancer and performer with NuLook School of Performing Arts. She enjoys surfing, reading, writing poems, modeling and acting. The Florida National Teenager Scholarship Program focuses on the “real girl,” and there are no swimsuit or mandatory talent competitions. The mission of the pageant is to promote both inner and outer beauty. Kheera’s proud mother is Abigail Apolinaris. |
