OPMI Offers High-Quality Music Lessons

For the Enhancement of Your Child

Musical education offers many benefits, but for children, the impact is most valuable. The Royal Conservatory of Music cites a great wealth of scientific research that highlights early childhood musical education as “a profound tool for attaining children’s full intellectual, social and creative potential.” The staff at Orlando Premier Music Instruction knows it’s never too early for kids to begin their musical journey and offers lessons to children of any age in the comfort of their own homes.

Orlando Premier Music Instruction’s staff members provide private in-home lessons on all instruments. After-school group lessons, art classes, musical theater, dance, drama and voice programs are also available.

OPMI was founded 15 years ago by Joanna Crews, a lifelong pianist and vocalist who holds a music degree from the University of South Florida and a State of Florida Professional Teaching Certification.

“Learning to play a musical instrument is an exciting and enriching activity,” Crews said. “It can strengthen motor skills, build self-confidence and broaden creativity. Statistics have also shown that music can strengthen problem-solving skills and better develop the areas of the brain used in math and science.”

Lessons incorporate rhythm, notation and ear-training games, and activities that make music theory fun. Each student develops a well-rounded music foundation so that knowledge can be transferred among different instruments.

“Our instructors are interviewed individually and selected based on their skill, knowledge and ability to teach,” Crews said. “I have hired and personally worked with the finest music teachers in Orlando and am confident that the enthusiasm, knowledge and love for music they bring to you and your child will enlighten and heighten your family’s musical learning journey.”

OPMI instructors undergo comprehensive screening and background checks, and are placed with each aspiring musician based on their backgrounds and individual needs. This allows for added flexibility when it comes to lesson scheduling and personalized instructor-student relationships.

“We want each musician to enjoy the time they spend learning with their instructor and to look forward to each weekly lesson,” Crews said.

OPMI offers a variety of programs to students, including in-home private lessons on all instruments, after-school group lessons, art classes, musical theater, dance, drama and voice. And OPMI now offers new MusicFirst infant, toddler and prekindergarten classes.

“This affordable, research-based program is fine-tuned to promote the healthy development of a child’s neurological connections, gross and fine motor skills, early language, socialization, and emotional development,” Crews said.

For parents of infants up to age 1, OPMI offers an infant and parent class that employs sensory stimulation like bounces, tapping, clapping, wiggles and tickles accompanied by simple songs, rhymes and lullabies. The parent-toddler class adds an emphasis on more advanced body awareness and movement. Preschool-age children graduate to a one-on-one class environment and experience music on a deeper level through interactive songs, fun music games and activities that develop an understanding of complex rhythms, music notation, pitch and instrumentation.

Signing up for lessons is easy. There are no registration fees or yearly contracts, so students can control the frequency of their practices. Plus there are no recital fees.

“We put on a recital every spring that’s free for students to perform and for family and friends to attend,” Crews said. “Each recital is followed by a reception and awards ceremony. It is rewarding for us to see and share the progress our students are making and for each to have an opportunity to perform.”

Crews’ mission is to see that every student who wants to study an instrument has the ability to pursue his or her passion.

“We assist our students with music book selection, free sheet music resources, practice tips, where to purchase an instrument, and music learning games.”
