Jay Welsh kicks off another season as head coach of the Winter Garden Squeeze.

Florida League officials announced head coaches for the 2017 baseball season. The mission of Florida League is to help college athletes hone their skills on the diamond and gain valuable exposure to professional scouts before heading back to school in the fall. A key component to player growth is the leadership and ability of the head coach. The Winter Garden Squeeze will welcome back head coach Jay Welsh to his third year coaching the team, second year as head coach.

The SunRidge Middle School boys soccer team goes undefeated to win its division title.

The SunRidge Middle School boys soccer team started its season with the goal of defending its championship run of two consecutive years. It went undefeated to win the division title and made it to the semifinals. Before its loss in the semifinals, the team went an unprecedented 25-0.

The SRMS girls soccer team defended its 2015 district title, closing the season with second place in the district.

Bishop Moore Catholic School Men’s Golf Team Brakes School Record

The Bishop Moore Catholic School men’s golf team broke its own school record (290) by shooting 284 to win the Class 2A District 10 Championship at Dubsdread Golf Club, a par 70 course. Thirty-three golfers from eight Central Florida high schools competed in the match. Co-medalists were Ignacio Arcaya and Davis Hingtgen with scores of 68. Ignacio won the playoff for first place with a birdie on the first hole. Nicholas Diebel took third place with a score of 71.

Sports NewsThe 8-under Red Ball team, composed of Southwest residents, plays at a Team Up event hosted by Lake Cane Tennis Center.

Lake Cane Tennis Center hosted a Team Up event for the United States Tennis Association Junior Team Tennis, a program for boys and girls ages 6-18 that allows youth to play on compatible teams of similar ages and skill levels. The organizers coordinate seasons of play with flexible league, team and scoring formats.

Sky Zone Orlando hosted its first Ultimate Dodgeball Qualifier. The winning team, Dip Brother Hood from the Dr. Phillips area, had the opportunity to compete in the fifth annual Ultimate Dodgeball Championship in Las Vegas for a shot at $50,000.

Gladiators Score at Sunshine State Games
