Staffed by midwives, Tree of Life offers the same care schedule expectant mothers would receive with an OB-GYN. When a woman hires a midwife to provide care during her pregnancy, birth and postpartum period, she can expect major differences from traditional medical care with a hospital-based obstetrician. One difference is that midwives spend the time to really get to know their patients in order to tailor each woman’s care to what she and her family need. They offer a relationship that is far more personal. For more information, call 407-878-2757 or visit treeoflifebirthfl.com.

Optimal oral hygiene is important, especially for women throughout pregnancy. Without it, a women can develop pregnancy gingivitis, periodontitis, tooth decay and even pre-term birth. When gingival inflammation is present, the expectant mother’s inflammatory response is increased, which releases mediators and can cause uterine contractions. In addition, many pregnant women eat high-carb diets and have morning sickness, which can affect tooth enamel strength and cause decay. It is recommended that women continue to receive dental care prior, during and after pregnancy to ensure these oral health problems do not occur.
