On Friday, March 31, the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association produced the 31st annual Bacchus Bash fundraising event, benefiting the CFHLA Foundation, a nonprofit organization that has supported many Central Florida hospitality students and schools throughout the past 10 years.

The Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association held its annual Golden Pineapple Awards Dinner on Jan. 26 at the Wyndham Orlando Resort International Drive to recognize frontline hourly lodging employees for exemplary service and customer satisfaction. The red-carpet event, attended by nearly 1,000 Central Florida lodging professionals, featured welcoming remarks by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, who had the opportunity to take photographs with the award nominees. The dinner was emceed by Fox 35’s Tom Johnson, and awards were presented by CFHLA President/CEO Rich Maladecki.

On Dec. 10 at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Studios Orlando, the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association hosted more than 1,100 members and community leaders at its annual CFHLA Hospitality Gala. The event is the hospitality industry’s largest annual holiday gathering. During the evening, CFHLA honored its lodging member of the year, allied member of the year, and engineer of the year.

Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association members appointed Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer the association’s 2016 Charles Andrews Memorial Hospitality Award recipient. The award is presented in recognition of achievements and contributions to Central Florida’s hospitality industry, as well as the community at large, and is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by CFHLA.

On Sept. 25, 2016, Central Florida lost one of its greatest ambassadors and community benefactors, Arnold Palmer. “The King” was more than a golf superstar to those in the area. His lifelong commitment to giving back to the community and passion for developing Orlando into a premier golfing destination distinguished him as a true legend.

On Friday, Sept. 9, the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association proudly presented the annual Patriot Day Breakfast, a community event to remember the lives tragically lost 15 years ago in New York City; Shanksville, Pennsylvania; and Washington, D.C. Each year, CFHLA commemorates the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and honors local law enforcement, fire rescue and emergency medical service members in the Central Florida region.

Awards Scholarships & Grants

Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association held its Community Partnership Luncheon at the Hilton Orlando, during which the CFHLA Foundation awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships and grants to Central Florida hospitality students and programs. For the second consecutive year, a “full-ride” $40,000 Don & Lorraine Freeberg Foundation Scholarship was presented. This year’s recipient was University High School student Ilana Harmon Sanchez, who will be attending the University of Central Florida Rosen College of Hospitality Management this fall. Also among the 29 Central Florida students who received scholarships at the event was IraRain Levinson of West Orange High School. Ira-Rain was awarded the $10,000 …
