Orange Tree resident Megan Roy is named as Waterbridge Elementary’s teacher of the year.

Megan Roy, a third-grade teacher at Waterbridge Elementary, was named as the school’s teacher of the year. Mrs. Roy graduated in 2005 with a degree in family and child sciences. She has served as the team leader for the third grade for the past five years and is a Common Core Black Belt. Mrs. Roy lives in Orange Tree with her husband, Michael, and four children.

Bay Hill residents Allen and Sarah Layton co-hosted a 100th-year birthday party for Sarah’s mother, Marian Mishalanie, formerly of Sand Lake Pointe. Marian turned 100 on Nov. 4. Helping to celebrate the momentous occasion were Bay Hill residents Jim Bennett and Joanne MacPherson, Dr. Phillips resident Salley Martin, Bay Hill residents Janet Minard and Joe and Norma Radosevich, Clermont resident Lillian Saunders, Orlando resident Debra Sheffield, Bay Hill resident Richard Spears, Dr. Phillips resident Kathe Swanson, and South Bay resident Jeanne Wetta Van Sickle.

Stories of the Season

The entries submitted for Southwest Orlando Bulletin’s 25th annual Stories of the Season contest told tales of special visits from Santa, mystical holiday creatures and the joy of spending time with family and friends. Whether they recreate holiday memories or take readers to imaginary places filled with elves, reindeer and their ilk, they are sure to add holiday spirit to all this year.

Congratulations to first-place winner Victoria Hernandez of Sand Lake Hills, runner-up Tabitha Eastham of Ocoee, and child winner Porter MacCabe of Saddlebrooke, all of whom received cash prizes. Also included are submissions selected as honorable mentions.

The staff of the Southwest Orlando Bulletin extends thank-yous to everyone who entered the contest and wishes a happy holiday season to all.
